About the Ministry
The Ministry of Steel Development (MSD) was created on the 23rd of August 2023 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of the renewed hope for industrialization of the country. The steel industry has been identified as critical to the country’s economic growth and the creation of job opportunities for its citizens.
The Ministry was created to provide a clear policy framework for the development of the steel industry, as well as to oversee the implementation of projects and programs aimed at promoting the production of steel in Nigeria. The Ministry’s mandate is to work towards the development of a vibrant, sustainable, and globally competitive steel industry that can contribute significantly to Nigeria’s economic growth
Vision
To create a vibrant, sustainable, and globally competitive steel industry in Nigeria that contributes significantly to the country’s economic development
To guide the operations in the Nigeria metal industry in accordance with global best practices with respect to factory safety standards, products quality, process technology and environmental sustainability
Mission
To promote the development of a world- class steel industry in Nigeria through the formulation and execution of policies, programs and projects that support the growth of the industry
To enable Nigeria achieve rapid industrialization through efficient and vibrant regulation of the Metallurgical industry and sustainable developement of the quality local raw materials for metal production
Mandate
The mandate of the Ministry of Steel Development in Nigeria includes the following:
Formulating policies for the development of the steel industry in Nigeria
Promoting the development of a globally competitive and innovative steel industry in Nigeria
Encourage the growth of the steel industry through easy and business- friendly access to infrastructures such as power and transportation
Regulation of the activities of the steel and other metal industry through issuance of entry and operational licenses and permits.
